THE COALITION AT FICS 2022

The Coalition for Sustainable Development through Sport took part to the third edition of the Finance in Common Summit (FiCS) co-organised by the African Development Bank and the European Investment Bank on 19 and 20 October 2022 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The event’s theme was “Green and Just transition for a sustainable recovery.”

The Summit highlighted the key role of Public Development Banks (PDBs) in supporting the transformation of economies and financial systems towards sustainability.
Organised in Africa for the first time, the Summit also fostered debates on the importance of working together to promote resilience and adaptation, green and quality infrastructure, health and social protection, while supporting a human rights-based approach and fighting against inequalities.

Two years after the launch of the Coalition for Sustainable Development through Sport, the contribution of sport to SDGs and key initiatives led by the Coalition were also a topic of discussion with delegates from PDBs, international organisations, Development Finance Institutions as well as civil society, regulators and private sector operators.

A table tennis tournament was also organised in partnership with the Ivorian Table Tennis Federation involving delegates attending the Summit. The winner has faced Sarah Hanffou Nana, a Cameroonian table tennis player strongly involved within the sport for development community notably through the NGO Ping Sans Frontieres and the Tako by PSF brand - the first African fully customizable table tennis made of locally purchased wood.
